PCTM Rolls Out First of Assessment Anchors Workshops

PCTM and Appalachia IU 08 will be offering a special Assessment Anchor Workshop (requiring a separate $100 registration) dealing with the teaching of Algebra concepts in grades 3-8. This workshop will be held Saturday, October 28, from 9am - 12 noon at Seven Springs Resort and will be limited to 30 participants. The focus of this workshop will include:

  • A look at the development and building of Algebra concepts from grades 3 through 8
  • An examination of the PA Academic Standards, grades 3 through 8, related to Algebra concepts; the Assessment Anchors related to Algebra concepts; and the eligible content related to Algebra concepts
  • A discussion of relevant strategies, activities, and materials for teaching Algebra concepts in grades 3 through 8

Workshop participants will receive a detailed binder containing all of the materials, a set of overhead manipulatives for classroom use, and  Act 48 credit.

This workshop is the first in a series of workshops to be offered through a partnership between PCTM and Intermediate Units across Pennsylvania.  The purpose of these workshops is to provide Pennsylvania's mathematics teachers and educators access to pertinent information regarding the mathematical concepts addressed on the PSSA, the eligible content related to these concepts, and strategies and materials for teaching these concepts.

In addition to the workshops focused on Algebra concepts, subsequent assessment anchor workshops will be designed to address the concepts of geometry and measurement, statistics and probability, and numbers and operations.
