NPCTM President's Message

Welcome!  I hope that as we begin the 2008-2009 school year that you are having a great year.  I am in a new building, with a new schedule, a new computer and a new operating system.  I am feeling like a Kindergarten student and wish someone would pin a note on me so that I know what to do!!
NPCTM has exciting things planned for this school year!

  • We are hosting the 57th Annual Meeting of PCTM on November 5—7 at the Split Rock Resort at Lake Harmony in the Poconos.  The Conference Booklet and Reservations forms are on the PCTM website.  We have some wonderful speakers from near and far coming so come and bring a friend.
  • Because of hosting the PCTM meeting, we will not be having our usual Fall meeting.  Encourage those who enjoy our meeting to join us at Split Rock.
  • Our Spring meeting will be on Thursday, April 30th at St. Mary’s Center in Scranton.  We will be celebrating our 20th anniversary with dinner.  Our featured speaker will be PA native and NCTM Executive Director Jim Rubillo.  Please mark your calendar and join us.
  • The annual Dr. Frank J. Sottile Memorial Mathematics Contest will be held in May at Marywood University.  This will be the 19th year for our contest for students from grades 5 to 8.  Chairpersons Mrs.Karen Boight and Mrs. Susan Kulilowski are expecting close to 300 students for a day of fun and math.
  • And our annual Frank J. Sottile Math Student Award and Scholarship will be given again this spring.  The Scholarship awards a top scholar with $ 750 and a second award of $ 500. The forms for the Scholarship will be mailed to members in March.  There are a lot of excellent math students in NEPA so be sure and nominate one.  Remember that only NPCTM members may nominate a student for this scholarship so…
  • Won’t you fill out the attached membership form and join us?  Better yet, copy it and share it with your colleagues.

Have a great school year!!
